Look no further for the perfect Christmas morning breakfast.I’m always a sucker for donuts but there is something about donuts on Christmas morning that just feels so right. These Chocolate peppermint donuts are so easy to make so will not add any stress to your morning. Actually, they might just add a little extra fun if you make them with loved ones! They are perfectly festive and seriously delicious. You might want to make more than one batch, you know just to be safe.

Chocolate Peppermint Donuts Recipe

For the Donuts:

  • 1 cup cake flour or all-purpose
  • 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1/4 teaspoon peppermint extract

For the Glaze:

  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 3 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1/8 teaspoon peppermint extract
  • 3 tablespoons whole milk

For the donuts

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Spray a donut pan with non-stick cooking spray and set aside.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. In a separate bowl, mix together the buttermilk, sugar, egg, butter, vanilla, and peppermint until well combined.
  4. Add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and mix until just combined.
  5. Use a piping bag to fill the donut cavities making sure to only fill them about 2/3 of the way full.
  6. Bake for 8-10 minutes or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
  7. Remove from oven and allow to cool for about 5 minutes in the pan. Then transfer to a wire rack to cool.

For the glaze

  1. In a separate bowl, mix together the powdered sugar, cocoa powder, vanilla, peppermint, and milk. If the glaze is too thick, slowly add a little milk at a time until it reaches your desired consistency.
  2. Dip the tops of the donuts into glaze and transfer back to the wire rack to cool. Top with crushed candy canes!

I hope you guys enjoy this chocolate peppermint donut recipe as much as I do. If chocolate/ donuts aren’t your thing you might want to try these cinnamon streusel giant muffins cause they are equally as good!
