10 tips for being productive as a busy mom
Get organized: The first step to being productive is to get organized. Make a list of everything you need to do and put it in order of priority. That way, you can make sure you’re always working on the most important tasks first. One product I use that helps with the organization so much is a weekly planner. This one is super helpful when it comes to time blocking and getting everything on paper!
Set aside some “me time”: It’s important to set aside some time each day that’s just for you. Whether it’s reading, taking a bath, or going for a walk, taking some time for yourself will help you recharge and be more productive when you’re with your family.
delegate: Don’t try to do everything yourself! Ask your husband or other family members to pitch in and help out around the house. If it fits in your budget, order a meal delivery kit to help with meal prep or send your laundry out to be washed for you! Not only will this lighten your load, but it will also teach your kids the importance of pitching in and helping out.
take breaks: It’s important to take breaks throughout the day so you don’t get overwhelmed or burnt out. Take five minutes here and there to catch your breath and regroup. You’ll be able to work more efficiently and get more done if you’re not trying to do it all at once.
focus on one thing at a time: multitasking may seem like a good idea, but it’s actually not very effective. When you’re trying to do too many things at once, your mind gets scattered and it becomes harder to focus on any one thing. So instead of trying to do ten things at once, focus on one thing at a time and give it your full attention. You’ll be surprised at how much more you can get done this way!
take care of yourself: In order to be productive, you need to take care of yourself both physically and mentally. Eat healthy meals, exercise regularly, and get enough sleep so your body is in top shape. Also, don’t forget to schedule some “me time” into your day so you can relax and de-stress. When you take care of yourself, you’ll be able to take care of everything else more effectively too!
use technology: Technology can be a mom’s best friend! There are all sorts of apps and websites that can help make your life easier (and more organized). So take advantage of them! Google Cal, Plann (for Instagram), Target Drive Up, are just a few of my faves!
establish routines: Routines are key when it comes to productivity—especially for kids! Having set times for meals, homework, baths, etc., will help everyone know what needs to be done and when it needs to be done. This will eliminate confusion (and arguments!) and make it easier for everyone to get things done on time without any fussing or fighting..
reward yourself: Make sure you’re taking the time to celebrate your successes—no matter how small they may seem! Give yourself a pat on the back for checking items off your To Do list or for getting dinner on the table on time every night this week. Whatever it is, make sure you’re rewarding yourself for a job well done so you stay motivated to keep going!
ask for help: Don’t be afraid to ask for help when you need it! Whether it’s hiring a babysitter so you can have some alone time or asking your mom or sister to come over and help with dinner one night—don’t hesitate to reach out when things are getting overwhelming. We all need help from time to time so there’s no shame in admitting that you need assistance too!
